So, before creating this post I was going to share my favorite self tanner remover and I was like…..WAIT - I should probably share my favorite self tanners first! DUH! Let me start by saying, that I’m kind of lazy when it comes to self tanners. I’m super critical in every aspect of life, except when it comes to self tanning. I just can’t hang with the whole weekly application. I feel like its ALOT of work and I’d honestly rather be doing something more productive. However, everyone loves that bronzed glowy look without the harmful health risks. I’ve tried to find something that is low maintenance, doesn’t streak and comes off EASILY! I swear I feel like I can’t ever get self tanner off and it drives me crazy.

I did find a remover that is seriously legit and maybe it’s the self tanner/remover combo that works well together, but I love it! I’ve tried all kinds of self tanners and removers. What I look for in a self tanner is a good color (because no one likes to look like an oompa loompa), easy application, non-messy and longevity of the tan.

Side note and funny story….

When I was in middle school I went to get a spray tan at a local tanning salon. They advertised how amazing this new automatic spray tan machine was. It sprayed you in this stand up tanning room. I thought, wow….this is awesome, until about 3 hours later and I turned the worst color of orange you can think of. It was absolutely horrible! I was crying and didn’t even want to got to my school dance. It was sooo BAD! I’m not sure if technology has advanced in automatic spray tanning machines, but if I were you I would do your research or just stay away! lol

Anyways…..back on track. These are some of my favorite self tanning products. I’m going to break it down by beginner to advanced tanner.

  1. Jergens Natural Glow - This self tanner is actually a daily moisturizer too. So it’s a two in a one and gives you both of the benefits of moisturizing while tanning. I think this is nice because my skin is super dry sometimes. So, this helps me a lot. I like to use this one if I’m not really in the mood to do a full self tan application. This is like your go-to product to give you a little bit of bronzed glowy look so that you don’t look ghostly. This is definitely not like a full on tanner. I feel like this is perfect for very pale tanners or beginning tanners. Because it’s a moisturizer it allows for an easy application and doesn’t stain your hands. This would be a perfect tester tanner if you’re a beginner and don't want to try something too drastic at first. I usually use the medium to tan skin tone.

  2. Fake Bake Self Tanning Water - I recently just discovered this self tanner and I’m in LOVE! This is probably my favorite tanner of ALL time. It’s completely streak free, easy to apply, non transferable, smells so good, easy to remove and has amazing color! I feel like this tanner lasts awhile too. It doesn’t break apart like some tanners. I use two coats of this. I apply a coat at night and then the next night I apply another coat. It’s the perfect color for me after two coats. It’s so easy to use because it’s a foam and I honestly feel like foams goes on so seamless. This tanner goes on white and won’t develop until the next day and I feel like it gets even better after two days of developing.

  3. Fake Bake Flawless Darker - So this is like my old tried and true self tanner. I’ve used this one for a long time now. It’s a liquid form and goes on with color so you’re able to apply while seeing the color. It does develop and gets darker after 8 hours. I usually keep my tanners on a full 24 hours before washing it off. That’s just my preference. This tanner is your full on self tanner color. This is if you’re an experienced self tanner and want that dark tan glow, like you just came back from the Bahamas. If you’re more light skinned, I would recommend just using the Flawless instead of the Flawless Darker. This tanner lasts awhile too and doesn’t break apart like others.

  4. Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Dark Mousse - A friend told me about this one and I love it! I go back and forth between this and the Fake Bake Flawless Darker, if I’m wanting that dark bronzed tan. I like this application, because it’s a mousse and I feel like they’re easier to apply. This is for an experienced tanner, as it gets super dark. You do have to a purchase the mitt with this tanner.

Tips for Tanning:

Make sure to exfoliate really well before applying tanner. I personally just use a body scrub and a wash cloth. You can purchase exfoliating mitts if you prefer (I’ll link some below). I also love FakeBake’s coconut exfoliating wipes if I'm in a hurry. I personally don’t like shaving my legs before tanning, I like to shave the next day when washing the tanner off because I feel like it gets in my hair follicle and looks gross. Make sure to use a small amount of lotions to your elbows, knees, feet and hands to avoid them looking too dark. I also recommend using a mitt. All of FakeBake products come with the mitt however, Loving Tan is sold separately. I also just learned you can keep the mitts to reuse them. You can just toss them in the washer! Mind blown. I seriously thought you have to throw them away. I’m such a dork sometimes.

Bronzers and etc.

So, I love to use body finishes when I’m going out or have a photo shoot. The body blur by Vita is amazing! A friend told me about it and its seriously hands down amazing. It blurs any kind of imperfections and makes your legs look super model status. I think you could use this on your entire body if you wanted to. I recommend putting it on then patting it down with a paper towel, before putting on your clothes. It can transfer if you wear something too fitting. I wore a pair of tight shorts and it got on them. It does wash out though.

I also love this FakeBake tinted glow, I received it in a PR box. I use it on my shoulders, collar bones and arms. You could literally use it everywhere though. It looks so good and gives you that sun kissed glow. I use the FakeBake Kabuki brush to apply it and it makes it super easy and not messy at ALL!

Also, I love this FakeBake bronzer is one of my favorite bronzers. I use it on my neck and face, because I don’t apply self tanner on my face. My face is acne prone and it usually breaks out.

I just discovered that FakeBake makes a blush too! It’s called legal sunburn and it gives you that fresh sun burn glow. I personally havne’t used it yet, but I plan too soon.
